Today is National Croissant Day in the USA!
Gone are the days of the plain butter croissant. This fluffy little pastry is on a creativity roll with chefs everywhere. Here are three new hybrids:
- The cronut: hybrid doughnut- croissant, invented by Chef Dominique Ansel of Dominique Ansel Bakery in NYC.
- The cruffin: hybrid muffin-croissant, invented by Mr. Holmes’ Bakehouse in San Francisco.
- The tacro: hybrid taco-croissant, invented by Vive la Tarte in San Francisco, at The Ferry Building.
If you are living in the Bay Area, here is a hyperlinked list of SFStation-recommended bakeries, plus more, where you might celebrate!
- Noon all Day
- Patisserie
- Le Marais Bakery
- Arizmendi Bakery
- Arsicault Bakery
- Tartine
- Boudin at the Wharf
